CHAPTER 5 - RETHINKING THE CHICKEN, THE EGG, AND OTHER MEATY MATTERS
Garden party, Hawaiian style
April 18
I thought these Elephant Ear plants were interesting and tropical, but Stacy says they are a weed - they take over. When we pulled them out we discovered some beautiful ginger plants with while flowers hiding beneath them.
Julia and Judy from the Women's Circle helped out with the garden party. They were cheerful at the beginning, pooped at the end, but in good spirits throughout. The Japanese beer helped!
Wow, this looks so much better now that it's cleaned up.

Look at that beautiful dwarf ginger. It doesn't flower. People grow it for the multicolored leaves.

Thomas, of Kim and Thomas, my tattooed handymen, just showed up and pitched in. He tackled a large bush and took it down to the ground.

Thomas knows a lot about plants, so I'll be relying on him in the future. I'm happy that he wants and can take some of the more unusual bromiliads in the yard. They need to be divided anyway.
Two weeks later I discovered this beautiful flower coming up in that same area. It's a Dwarf Canna Lily. It would have been totally hidden by the Elephant Ear plants.
Julia, please put pink flower here.
