No one was more surprised than me when I became a mother at age 42.
Jade was from an orphanage in Yueyang in Hunan Province in China. She was just under six months old when we got her.
The experience of getting Faye four years later was very different. She had been with a foster family and was not happy to be stuck with these strangers.
Faye was from Milo, about 25 miles from Yue Yang in Hunan Province

Jade came to the rescue by showing Faye how to eat Cheerios.
On the trip to get Faye, Jade had the chance to go back to her orphanage in Yue Yang and see the bed she had been in so many years before - gave me chicken skin to see her take a picture of it.
Faye and my Dad are linked forever: the last grandchild and her Grandpa.
